The NAACP is facing criticism from within its ranks over its decision to join a lawsuit filed by the teachers union in New York City aimed at stopping 20 charter schools from opening or expanding in buildings shared with traditional public schools. The 2010 Education Next­-PEPG Survey revealed rising support for charter schools among minority parents, which Ed Next editors Paul Peterson and Marty West noted was increasingly at odds with the stance of the NAACP and other civil rights groups.
