A front page article in the Washington Post profiles the Roman Catholic school attended by President Obama for almost four years while he was living in Indonesia as a youth. While in Indonesia, Obama also attended a Muslim school, Besuki, but for less than a year.  “That Obama went to a Catholic elementary school for a time while living in Jakarta from 1967 to 1971 has long been known,” writes Andrew Higgins in the Post. “But this part of the presidential biography has largely been reduced to a footnote, thanks to the energetic self-promotion of its rival, Besuki, which is in one of Jakarta’s wealthiest districts.” In the Fall 2008 issue of Ed Next, Peter Meyer looked at the early school experiences of Barack Obama and John McCain, which mostly took place in private schools.
