What We’re Watching: Embrace the Common Core

IntelligenceSquared recently hosted a debate on the Common Core featuring two Ed Next editors — Rick Hess and Mike Petrilli – on opposite sides.

Arguing in favor of the Common Core are Carmel Martin of the Center for American Progress and Michel Petrilli of the Fordham Institute. Arguing against the Common Core are Carol Burris, principal of South Side High School in New York, and Frederick Hess of AEI. John Donovan of ABC News serves as the moderator.

The Summer 2014 issue of Education Next includes two articles with different takes on Common Core implementation: “Navigating the Common Core: Complexities threaten implementation,” by Mike McShane and “The Common Core Takes Hold: Implementation moves steadily forward,” by Bob Rothman.
