Buried in the details of an omnibus spending bill are more signs that the D.C. voucher program will remain closed to new students, and also signs that schools participating in the program will face new accountability requirements. The Washington Scholarship Fund, the nonprofit that oversees the program, has threatened to resign from the program unless it is reauthorized by January. An article by Patrick Wolf in the Fall 2009 issue of Ed Next reviewed the political controversy over the program and summarized the impact of the vouchers on student learning.
