In a speech that he will deliver today at Columbia University, Education Secretary Arne Duncan calls for “revolutionary change” in teacher prep programs, saying that ed schools do a mediocre job of preparing teachers. In an article that appeared in Ed Next in 2005, David Steiner, who is now New York’s education commissioner, wrote about what future teachers are actually learning in ed schools.
