The latest PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) results were released today, and students from Shanghai were the top scorers in math, science and reading. In an article that appeared in the Fall 2009 issue of Ed Next, Mark Schneider explained what it is that PISA tests (it claims to be assessing the skills young adults will need in the emerging global economy), how it differs from other international tests like TIMSS (which is designed to test students’ mastery of math and science curricula), and what to make of the policy advice that OECD develops based on the results.
