Middle schools do more harm than good and should be closed, argues Michael Benjamin in today’s New York Post. A study by Jonah Rockoff and Benjamin Lockwood found that students in New York City attending standalone middle schools score lower on standardized tests than students of the same age who attend K-8 schools. The study appears in the Fall 2010 issue of Ed Next.

Peter Meyer wrote more broadly about the failings of middle schools in “The Middle School Mess,” in the Winter 2011 issue of Ed Next.
