Fixing Teacher Pensions
Education Next | Fall 2011

In US News, Marcus Winters looks at the practice of expecting young teachers to pay for the retirement of the teachers who came before them.

He writes

States need to fulfill their promises to current retirees. But that burden should be shared rather than being tossed on the shoulders of a new generation of teachers. In addition to simple fairness, we can’t expect to attract and retain high quality teachers if we continue to cut their pay.

Robert Costrell, Mike Podgursky, and Christian Weller discuss some ideas for fixing teacher pensions in an Ed Next forum.
