A study comparing the performance of students using vouchers to attend private school in Milwaukee with students who attend public schools found that students in both groups are exhibiting similar levels of growth. The researchers did note that less taxpayer dollars are being spent on voucher students to achieve the same results. An article by economist Bob Costrell that appeared in the Winter 2009 issue of Ed Next investigated whether the school voucher program in Milwaukee was saving money for taxpayers or adding to taxpayer burdens. On his blog, Rick Hess Straight Up, Ed Next editor Rick Hess today takes a close look at the results of the new study: “Non-Effects of Milwaukee Vouchers: What’s It Mean?”
