President Obama has nominated Alan Krueger, a labor economist from Princeton who studies education issues, to chair the Council of Economic Advisors. In the Spring 2005 issue of Ed Next, Martin West reviewed Inequality in America: What Role for Human Capital Policies, which was a debate between Krueger and James Heckman about why America’s supply of educated workers is not keeping up with demand and what should be done about it. In the Winter 2003 issue of Ed Next, Derek Neal reviewed Education Matters, a collection of essays by Krueger about the economics of education.
