The number of students receiving free or reduced price lunches at school has risen by 3 million over the last 4 years. In an article that appeared in the Winter 2010 issue of Ed Next, David Bass expressed concern that the federal school lunch program does not do a good job of verifying student eligibility for the program, which has consequences beyond providing meals for hungry children.
