A New Type of Ed School
Fall 2012| Education Next

Arthur Levine, the former president of Teachers College, will partner with MIT to create a new kind of teacher training program, funded by $30 million from the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.  The focus will be on competencies rather than seat time, and researchers will analyze what works and what’s effective in the classroom. The research findings will be shared with other ed schools.

Levine told NPR’s Claudio Sanchez that most education schools have such low admission standards and are of such poor quality that t would bie easier to replace them than repair them.

In “A New Type of Ed School,” June Kronholz wrote about Relay Graduate School of Education’s efforts to reinvent ed school.

In “Disrupting Teacher Education,” Meredith Liu wrote about two efforts to use online learning to disrupt teacher training.
