A federal judge has ruled that the state of Louisiana must provide the U.S. Department of Justice with data on the students participating in the state’s voucher program. The Justice Department will use the data to monitor the effect of the voucher program on segregation.

A study published by Education Next found that, contrary to Justice Department claims, the voucher program actually boosts the level of racial integration of schools in Louisiana.

Political science professors Joshua Dunn and Martha Derthick analyze earlier stages in the legal battle over the Louisiana voucher program in an article appearing in the Summer 2014 issue of Ed Next.
