In Massachusetts, Governor-elect Charlie Baker named Jim Peyser as state education secretary. Peyser has served as education adviser to past governors, as chairman of the state board of education, as executive director of the Pioneer Institute, and as managing director of NewSchools Venture Fund.
As noted by Gintautas Dumcius on WBUR, “Staking out ground ahead of his push to allow more charter schools in Massachusetts, Governor-elect Charlie Baker on Tuesday named a charter proponent and his former Pioneer institute colleague as state education secretary.”
Jim Peyser wrote about battles over charter schools in Boston in an article in the Winter 2014 issue of Education Next (“Boston and the Charter School Cap: Politics halts growth of top-notch schools.”)
