Can Teacher Evaluation Improve Teaching?
Education Next | Fall 2012

In Washington, D.C., the school district has hired a reality tv company to produce videos intended to improve the skills of its teachers by showing them what good teaching looks like. The videos, which are meant to complement the districts pathbreaking teacher evaluation system, feature the district’s highest-performing teachers demonstrating how they teach a range of lessons.

An article just published by Education Next looks at how another school district (Cincinnati) has helped experienced teachers improve by giving the teachers detailed feedback based on multiple, highly-structured classroom observations conducted by experienced peer teachers and administrators.
