Video will be unavailable until event starts at 4:00pm
AEI will be live streaming an event today, July 31, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m called Parent Power: Grass-Roots Activism and the New Politics of K-12 Education Reform
Andrew P. Kelly of AEI and Patrick McGuinn of Drew University will present their research on parental empowerment in education, and a panel made up of representatives from parent groups will discuss the following questions:
What lessons have organizing groups like StudentsFirst, Parent Revolution and Stand for Children learned about effectively mobilizing parents? Which parents are most likely to take on an advocacy role, and how do these groups identify and engage them? What can political science tell us about the challenges and sustainability of these new efforts?
More information on the event is available here.
An article by Patrick McGuinn on education advocacy groups, “Fight Club.” appears in the Summer 2012 issue of Education Next.
